Ahead of Sonic Frontiers’ release later this year, Sonic Team’s Takashi Iizuka sat down with Game Informer to answer 123 quick questions. Thanks to that, we now know a whole lot more about the upcoming title – including the unfortunate revelation that the game won’t feature a Chao Garden side game.
Formatting the Game Informer Quick Question Set generally leaned more on the humorous side of things. That being said, Sonic Team leader Takashi Iizuka still offered up a number of very interesting nuggets of information.
According to Iizuka, the most common request the team receives from fans is the inclusion of a Chao Garden in their games. For the uninitiated, Chao Gardens was first introduced in Sonic Adventure 1 and later expanded into its sequel; offering a surprisingly deep creature herding experience – which for some felt even more appealing than the main game.
Unfortunately, according to Iizuka, the Chao Garden is not present in the upcoming Sonic Frontiers. That being said, the game mode might make a return at some point in the future, like when asked “Will we ever get another Sonic Adventure game?” Iizuka replied with a simple “one day” offering hope to fans of the sub-series as well as the Chao Garden.
The latest interesting tidbits include the fact that a Mario Maker-style Sonic title won’t be happening; Super Sonic will be available in Sonic Frontiers; the aforementioned upcoming game will be the franchise’s longest; and Sonic Team already know what the next Sonic game will be after Frontiers.
From everything we’ve seen and heard, it looks like Sonic Frontiers is one of Blue Blur’s most important titles, and its success – or failure – could shape the franchise going forward. The full interview can be found HERE.
