2022 Street improvement program underway on 49th Avenue, temporarily closing 36th Street intersection

Lloydminster, AB/Sask. – Effective Monday, May 30, 2022, the westbound lane of 36th Street will be closed at the intersection of 49th Avenue and 36th Street to facilitate the 2022 Street Improvement Program on 49th Avenue at 36th at 38th Street. The lane restriction is expected to last for a week, weather permitting.

The eastbound lane will remain open; however, motorists will not be able to turn north (left). Northbound motorists on 49th Avenue will still be able to turn right to head east on 36th Street, but will not be able to turn west on 36th Street.

Working with ASL Paving Ltd., the City of Lloydminster has already begun making pavement improvements on 49th Avenue from 36th to 38th. This part of the 2022 street improvement program is expected to be completed by the end of June, weather permitting. The pavement portion will see the replacement of concrete curb and gutter and sidewalk sections, the repair of failing areas of the road and the complete resurfacing of the asphalt.

Street improvement start dates in 2022 are tentative and will depend on weather conditions and barring unforeseen circumstances. Detour routes and road closure signs will be marked and installed. Work notices have been distributed to all those who will be directly affected by the work.

Motorists are reminded to allow extra time for travel, to slow down when driving through construction zones, and to obey all signs, detours and barriers.
