The Bearcats take a close decision from the herd

HUNTINGTON, West Virginia – The Marshall University tennis team (11-10) pushed Cincinnati (15-4) to the tiebreaker but ultimately fell, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the Brian David Fox Tennis Center.

“I think we did a good job in doubles,” said Marshall’s head tennis coach John Mercer noted. “It came down to the last two points in the doubles. We managed to win those points and the singles ended up the same.”

“I thought Sophie [Hurrion] does a great job of being in this situation [in the tiebreaker] after trailing 4-1 in the third. driveway [McGrane] did a great job winning his match on court four against a tough player.
We had some good places today with a lot of effort overall.”

Emma Vanderheyden and Liz Stefanic put the herd on the front with a 6-0 victory on the first court to open the doubles portion. The Bearcats fired even after winning the set on court three (6-4), but Madi Ballow and Hurrion battled to take the tiebreaker on court two, 7-6 [8-6 tiebreaker].

Cincinnati took control of the duel with a pair of wins on courts one and five to advance 2-1 in the duel, but Ballow picked up a win on court three (6-2, 6-4) to tie the duel. at 2-2.
