Game Infarcer: Horizon Forbidden West nominated for Game of the Week award

In a bid to bolster his awards show, host Geoff Keighley has announced a bold new category for The Game Awards 2022: the Game of the Week award.

“This prestigious award recognizes outstanding titles that have pushed the boundaries of game design and captured the collective attention and imagination of gamers for seven days,” says Keighley.

Guerilla Games’ Horizon Forbidden West got the first nomination. The well-received 2017 follow-up to Aloy’s adventure took the gaming world by storm until it suddenly didn’t anymore, thanks to Elden Ring – a game hailed by critics as the best game of forever history – stealing his thunder (jawbone) a week later.

While it’s a seemingly logical nomination and the fact that the awards are months away, that hasn’t stopped journalists and influencers from wondering whether or not Horizon deserves the accolade and speculating on how. other titles which could be opposed to him.

“I think it’s worthy,” says reviewer Josh Pardue. “I really enjoyed riding the beautiful landscape of Forbidden West atop my robot horse all the way out of Elden Ring. Now all I can think of is From Software’s magnum opus. I still love Horizon, but now I can’t help but wonder why my robot horse can’t double jump too. Shouldn’t it have rocket hooves or something?”

“Uh, nobody saves the world, anyone?” tweeted Twitch streamer ChristiePlayz. “This game rocks and didn’t even get an hour in the spotlight before it was completely buried by Xbox’s multi-billion dollar purchase of a problematic publisher. No one should win this award.

Meanwhile, From Software mastermind Hidetaka Miyazaki cryptically praised Guerilla Games on Twitter by tweeting a blinking emoji with a photo of him posing with an item wrapped in a GOTY-shaped gift.

Game of the Week isn’t the only premature nomination Guerilla can boast of. The company as a whole is also the first studio to be nominated for a lifetime achievement award for helping usher in two of the greatest games of all time: Elden Ring and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. .
