On Sunday February 27, York Regional Police (YRP) were notified of a possible impaired driver by a vigilant citizen, who also happened to be an off-duty York Regional Police communicator.

A Twitter video posted by YRP mixes the 4 a.m. audio call and footage from the officer’s dash cam, which includes the intersection the driver is at, as well as the caller saying the driver got kicked on the brake pedal for three red light cycles.

Wisely, two patrol vehicles arrive and strategically position themselves around the Chevrolet Cobalt.

With more patience than me, the officer approaches the driver’s side window and taps on the window to wake up our Sleeping Beauty. The calm officer warmly tells him ‘keep your foot on the brake, okay?… park your car’ to avoid a potential collision – a careful move, as anyone could be easily startled when awake unexpectedly by someone else.

Unfortunately, the driver – albeit very slowly – rolled into the cruiser in front of him upon waking up.

Apparently found both drunk and stoned, the driver was removed from the vehicle and charged with impaired driving while his Cobalt was hoisted onto a tray.

The saddest and most accurate moment comes from the caller at the end of the video: “it never ends, does it?”
