Zoom fixes a Mac bug that left microphones on after calls ended

Zoom says it fixed a bug that appeared to leave a Mac’s microphone on after calls ended.

This isn’t the first time Zoom has said it’s fixing this flaw, however, with The Register noting that a December 27 update to the company’s native macOS app falsely claimed to have “fixed an issue regarding triggering the microphone indicator light when not in a meeting.”

But macOS Monterey users continued to report that Apple’s microphone activity indicators — a green dot for when the mic is currently in use and an orange dot for when it’s been used recently — continued. to appear in their system’s menu bar after a Zoom call ends. .

Zoom told The Register it was “reviewing this” on February 10. 9to5Mac later found an official acknowledgment of this issue (along with the latest claim that it was fixed in a Mac app update) posted on Zoom’s community forums. the morning of February 11.

“We encountered a bug related to the Zoom client for macOS, which could show that the orange light kept appearing after leaving a meeting, call or webinar,” said a Zoom community champion known as “Bitcoin_Shaman”. “This bug has been fixed in the Zoom client for macOS version 5.9.3 and we recommend updating to version 5.9.3 to apply the fix.”
