New year, new look for the library newsletter | Opinion

The New Year brings a full calendar of events to the Derby Public Library and an ever-evolving cycle of book recommendations and special notices. The best way to stay in touch with all the latest information from your local library is to sign up for the monthly email newsletter.

Regular newsletter followers will find it fresher in 2022. The library has moved to a new vendor, NoveList, which offers advanced resources and more up-to-date technology.

NoveList is a national service that provides libraries with reader advice, marketing materials, and website innovations. Derby Public Library is delighted to partner with NoveList to access their LibraryAware newsletter software.

For customers like you, that means a sleeker, better-designed newsletter with the most accurate information sent straight to your inbox each month.

Ashley Pohlenz, interlibrary loan and cataloging coordinator and newsletter editor, says “the newsletter contains reviews with links to books, information on events such as art exhibitions, children’s programming and closures, and there are links to our website and social media.

In addition to these newsletter updates, the library now has access to NoveList Plus, a database specially designed to find you the next good read. NoveList Plus maintains lists of documents in all genres and age groups, monitors series releases, and suggests documents to read or listen to for those looking for a story similar to their favorite book.

NoveList Plus also tracks media mentions. Books mentioned in popular media such as NPR, CBS This Morning, Good Morning America, and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon are easily located in curated lists.

Books with specific characteristics are also easily identifiable with NoveList Plus thanks to lists of documents based on geographic, gender and cultural identity. Award-winning and professionally reviewed titles are also just a click away.

Any book found through NoveList Plus links directly to the library catalog so you can queue for the next available copy.

To access NoveList Plus, users simply visit the library website and click on “e-learning”. To subscribe to the library’s enhanced monthly newsletter, patrons can visit www.derbylibrary.com or ask a librarian on their next visit!
