THE Ministry of Education (DepEd) ensured the continued implementation of the programs under the leadership of Secretary Leonor Briones with the change of administration following the May 2022 elections.

DepEd is set to hand over a roadmap to the next administration for its programs, particularly on improving the K-12 curriculum.

At his 2021 general assembly, Briones looked back on the projects put in place during his tenure amid the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, including the creation of the National Sports Academy, the Education Futures program. and the Sulong Edukalidad campaign.

She urged DepEd’s executive committee to proactively disseminate the accomplishments of the department over the past five years.

“It is very important that our family members at DepEd and across the country know what has been accomplished, what the achievements of our department are and what legacy we will leave to the next secretary of the Ministry of Education”, a- she declared.

Briones also highlighted his goal of further integrating Good Manners and Good Conduct (GMRC) into the basic education curriculum to ensure that future generations value its importance in Filipino culture.

She also expressed her advocacy against gambling and her intention to include it in the basic education curriculum, similar to the agency’s aggressive campaign against illegal drugs and smoking.

In addition, the Head of Education emphasized the value of the bayanihan spirit in responding to calamities, as she observed during her visit to areas affected by Typhoon “Odette”.

Briones encouraged DepEd staff to learn from the experiences of field offices in crisis management and preparedness.

“It was a very encouraging sight to see that after the storm people are still happy, people are still singing and people are still looking forward to face to face lessons,” said Briones.
