Men’s basketball kicks off Big 5 Road Set on Saturday at Temple


PHILADELPHIA CREAM – The University of Pennsylvania men’s basketball continues its run in the Big 5 on Saturday, making the short trip to North Broad to face Temple. The match will start at 4 p.m. and will be televised nationwide via ESPNU.

Saturday’s game is the first of three back-to-back road games, the first time in program history that the Quakers will play three Big 5 games away from The Palestra.

The Penn Temple Series

* The Quakers and Owls meet for the 70th time in men’s basketball, with Temple having a 48-21 lead in the series.

* Penn has won the last two clashes, a 77-70 decision at the Liacouras Center in January 2019, then a 66-59 victory at The Palestra in January 2020.

* Prior to that, the last time the Quakers had won back-to-back wins were the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons. The last time Penn had three straight wins against Temple? That was four decades ago, the Quakers won four in a row from 1979 to 1982.

* Penn is 29-55 against programs currently playing in the American Athletic Conference, with the other wins coming against SMU (3), Tulane (3) and UCF (2).
